Nottingham Forest have entered the Jean-Philippe Mateta sweepstakes in a big way, including a direct contract proposal to the Crystal Palace striker, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Mateta is the latest to be linked with a move away from Selhurst Park following Eberechi Eze's summer transfer to Arsenal and former captain Marc Guehi's £20 million move to Manchester City earlier this month, with Juventus and Aston Villa among the interested clubs.
However, it's Forest who have made the most recent noise as they are widely reported to have offered £35m for the 28-year-old. On Monday's episode of DAZN Transfer with Fabrizio Romano, the renowned football journalist revealed that Forest have been talking to both Palace and Mateta as they look to get a deal done prior to next week's transfer deadline day, with the player keen to move to another side.

"He's been clear with Oliver Glasner, with Steve Parish, with all people at the club. He wants to go," Romano said. "He wants to find a solution in this January window."
As for what Forest's proposal entails, Romano stated that their offer to Mateta was "very good" while confirming the reported fee that Palace would collect should the transfer go through.
"[Forest] already made a contract proposal to the player, a very good financial proposal to Mateta, and also this [is an] opportunity for Crystal Palace to get something around 35 million pounds for the player, who is out of contact in summer 2027."
Adding extra spice to a potential deal is the fact that Nottingham Forest are set to host Crystal Palace on Saturday. Mateta could be wearing Forest's red jersey in that match if an agreement is made.
