Promoter Eddie Hearn has claimed that Joseph Parker vs Martin Bakole could be a better fight than the orignal scheduled clash with IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois.
Dubois was forced to withdraw from his scheduled world title defence on Thursday after coming down with an illness.
A frantic search for a replacement followed and now Martin Bakole will be making the trip from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Riyadh to face Parker on 'The Last Crescendo' bill live on DAZN PPV.
Not long after the news became official, Hearn gave his reaction to The Stomping Ground.
"Unbelievable, I heard it was Okolie, he was in the mix. I knew both of them were in the mix," Hearn said.
"To be honest with you, I wasn’t expecting Parker to fight either guy, Okolie or Bakole.
"It might be a better fight than Dubois-Parker, it’s such a great fight, so risky, I can’t believe it."
There may be no world title on the line, but Parker's WBO interim heavyweight championship will be at the stake, with the winner becoming the mandatory challenger to full WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk.
