Eddie Hearn names his world champion who is under 'pressure' ahead of his next defence
Eddie Hearn will promote a huge 140lbs clash on June 14 as Richardson Hitchins defends his IBF crown against former lightweight champion, George Kambosos inside The Theater at Madison Square Garden.
The bout, live on DAZN, will see Kambosos return to the scene of his biggest ever win when he defeated Teofimo Lopez in 2021 which ensured he became world ruler at 135lbs.
Since that result, Kambosos has endured some tough defeats at the highest level against the likes of Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko, and now he is facing a fighter who looks set to push on towards bigger things.
Hitchins, one of boxing’s most confident fighters, has not put a foot wrong in his career up to this point and he has often spoke about testing himself some of the sport’s biggest names.
Victory for him next month could open the door for showdowns against the likes of Haney, Lopez, and Ryan Garcia, but first is the threat of Kambosos and that is where Hitchins’ focus is currently at.
Hearn, who has done a brilliant job guiding Hitchins to this position, knows that the skilful New Yorker is capable of delivering when it matters most and he has spoken about Hitchins impressing in front of his local crowd ensuring that further opportunities come his way.
“The pressure is on Richardson to look good and grab the attention of His Excellency [Turki Alalshikh] and all those kind of people,” said Hearn when speaking to The Ring.
“And if he looks good and wins in devastating fashion, I think he’ll be in a great position to land those big fights.”
