Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.: Paul promises to 'embarrass' former middleweight world champion

Jake Paul rarely minces words when it comes to his opponents, and on Wednesday he took verbal shots at the man he will face this summer live on DAZN PPV, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Paul and Chavez will meet at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California next month as both men look to build on victories from the last time each was in the ring.

Chavez ended a three-year hiatus last July to defeat former UFC fighter Uriah Hall, marking the former WBC middleweight champion's first fight at cruiserweight. Meanwhile, Paul grabbed the attention of the sporting world at large when he drew legend Mike Tyson out of retirement last November for a landmark bout that saw the much younger combatant claim an eight-round unanimous victory.

Now Paul and Chavez are set to step into the ring for the first time in 2025, and while Paul lauded his opponent's "amazing resume" and experience, that was as complimentary as he got towards the Mexican fighter.

"I'm gonna shock the world once again and prove how good I am, how powerful I am," Paul said at the fight's launch press conference on Wednesday. "This is his toughest fight to date, and I'm going to embarrass him and make him quit like he always does."

Not one to shy away from making bold statements as part of a fight's build-up, Paul called Chavez "the embarrassment of Mexico" and addressed remarks from Chavez's father — legendary three-weight world champion Julio Sr. — about a never-before-seen sense of focus from the 39-year-old ahead of the upcoming bout.

"I don't want any excuses, and when I beat this man all the boxing media, like you guys always do, are going to discredit it," Paul said. "But I'm gonna expose him and I'm gonna embarrass him. He's the embarrassment of Mexico. Mexico doesn't claim him.

"He's going to get exposed on June 28, and then the boxing media will have all these excuses but I don't want them to be having these excuses. They say he's training hard, they say this is the most focused he's ever been, good. As he should be, because people don't realize how good I actually am, and when he feels those first few punches he's going to want to quit and go back to his stool."
