The big fights are slowly piling up for Ekow Essuman after a long quest for the Nottingham man to prove he belongs at world level.
The relentless 36-year-old has been a consistent feature of the domestic main event scene for the best part of the last six years, but now he is eager to push on and prove to himself that he is capable of securing wins against some of the biggest names at welterweight.
A former British ruler, Essuman’s fan-friendly style has often seen him deliver high action fights with numerous impressive wins coming over the likes of Chris Kongo and Samuel Antwi.
Earlier this year, Essuman’s reward for his workmanlike conduct inside the ring was a showdown with Josh Taylor in the former undisputed champion’s backyard.
Essuman now has the opportunity to enhance his credentials and that is a fight with Taylor’s ultimate nemesis, Catterall, and the pair will clash on the undercard of Chris Eubank Jr’s big rematch with Conor Benn, live on DAZN, this weekend.
Heading into the clash, Essuman is brimming with confidence following his win over Taylor, but does he see Catterall as a tougher examination.
“He’s the man that beat the man so a lot of people say,” said Essuman to DAZN News when referring to Catterall’s 2024 victory over Taylor as well as the controversial meeting two years earlier when the Chorley man should have had his hand raised.
“If I have to prove after beating Taylor that I belong at that level then Jack Catterall is just another brick in the road that is going to get kicked to the side.
“He’s a very awkward character. We’ve shared the ring before when I was preparing for the Josh Taylor fight. He’s good at what he does and when you realise what he does, you also realise what he’s not good at.”
Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn's much anticipated rematch is live and exclusive on DAZN PPV on Saturday, November 15. Buy for £24.99 UK / $59.99 US.
