Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois 2 - David Price provides his verdict on undisputed heavyweight title clash

Watch Usyk vs Dubois II on DAZN - Saturday July 19

David Price knows what it takes to try and navigate the heavyweight division, and has now weighed in on Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois' blockbuster rematch.

The Liverpool puncher, now retired, was once seen as the man to restore Britain’s reputation in the heavyweight division after numerous fighters had fallen short in the immediate aftermath of Lennox Lewis’s retirement.

A bronze medallist at the 2008 Olympics, Price’s early career looked promising before back-to-back defeats against Tony Thompson thwarted his world title goals.

Price would still compete near the business end of the division and register some impressive wins, but a stoppage loss to Derek Chisora in 2019 was enough to convince Price his time in the sport was up.

Since his departure, numerous fighters have placed their hands on versions of the heavyweight crown and the current holders are set to collide later this year.

On July 19, live on DAZN , at Wembley Stadium, Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois will meet for all four heavyweight titles

The pair squared off in 2023 when Usyk was able to drop Dubois twice before winning in the ninth round, but the bout is perhaps remembered more for a shot from Dubois that was deemed low when some believed it was a legal blow

Olexandr Usyk vs. Daniel Dubois

Price, who still follows the heavyweight scene he once occupied, has had his say on the upcoming clash and whether he believes Dubois can

“I think that the momentum and experience that Dubois has built since their first fight gives him a much better chance,” said Price when speaking exclusively to DAZN News via Pika-kasinot

“In the first fight, Usyk couldn’t miss Dubois, but I think the wins that Dubois has had since, he’s beat some top fighters in devastating fashion, and momentum is a big thing.

“We all know Usyk is the main man, he’s the undisputed champion, but he had two really close fights with Tyson Fury. You could argue he could be slowing down where Daniel Dubois could be on his way to his peak.

“It’s still a big task, but you can definitely look at this a lot differently from their first fight.”
