O’Shaquie Foster was frustrated seeing Stephen Fulton Jr. tip the scale two pounds overweight during Friday’s weigh-in.
He was even more irked when he was installed as the ‘B’ side to the fight Saturday night.
Foster responded by taking all his frustrations out in the ring, executing his game plan to perfection in managing the distance behind the jab toward a dominating statement win over Fulton Jr. The win had him claim the vacant WBC interim lightweight title, adding it to his WBC super featherweight hardware. Judges inside the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas scored it 117-111, 118-110 and 119-109 in Foster’s favor following the stunningly lopsided victory.
All fight long, Foster managed his ring real estate shrewdly, catching Fulton Jr. repeatedly as the Philadelphia tried to close the distance to no avail.
When he wasn’t controlling the distance with the jab, Foster was dictating the pace of the fight by producing the higher punch volume, which also included pot-shotting with one-two combinations and hooks.
Bleeding from his mouth in the ninth round and from his nose in the 11th , Fulton Jr. just could not figure out the complex puzzle Foster presented.
Entering the bout, the knocks on Foster were that he does not let his hands go enough and could be a late starter. Neither rang true Saturday night as Foster overwhelmed Fulton Jr., outlanding him 32 percent to 13 percent as the aggressor early and through the fight.
The boxing masterclass win makes Foster (24-3, 12 KOs) a major player at lightweight in 2026.
