WBA 'regular' heavyweight champion Kubrat Pulev will make the first defence of his title tonight against Murat Gassiev. 

Pulev won the belt after beating Mahmoud Charr in his native Bulgaria a year ago, and he will look to keep his dream of becoming a full world champion alive when he goes head-to-head with the former cruiserweight world champion. 

Tonight's main event could have major consequences for the winner who will likely face knockout artist Moses Itauma at some point in 2026, as long as he beats Jermaine Franklin on January 24, live on DAZN .

While this fight may not contain the heavyweight's best fighters, it is still an intriguing contest. 

Despite making the move to heavyweight five years ago, Gassiev is yet to deliver a performance to get fight fans excited, and when he made the step up against former Tyson Fury foe Otto Wallin, Gassiev fell short by split decision. 

Pulev may be 12 years older than Gassiev, but he has plenty of experience under his belt and knows how to suceed at heavyweight. With a superior height and reach, I expect Pulev to control the contest and make it a slow affair to frustarte Gassiev who will attempt to make his younger age count against the Bulgarian who is close to retirement. 

The defending WBA 'regular' champion will look to establish his jab early, keep Gassiev at a safe distance, and not allow him to throw much. This fight will go the full 12-round distance, and Pulev will triumph on the scorecards.
