Tony Bellew has witnessed Oleksandr Usyk defeat Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury twice, but he still thinks the British pair possess the most suitable tools when discussing who has the biggest opportunity to defeat the Ukrainian master.
One year later, Usyk repeated that win and after securing the series with Joshua, his attention would swiftly turn to becoming undisputed against Fury.
In round nine, a huge left hand from Usyk had Fury on the verge of being stopped, and although he survived to hear the final bell, Usyk was declared the winner.
Usyk would repeat the result at the end of 2024 as he finished the year as undisputed heavyweight champion and arguably the best boxer in the sport.
Joseph Parker, Agit Kabayel, and Moses Itauma have all been mentioned as potential rivals, but Bellew believes that Usyk’s former opponents could be the ones to upset him.
“People won’t like this but the person who gives him the best fight is Tyson Fury, probably,” said Bellew when speaking to Talksport .
“People don’t like me saying that but he’s the one who’s given him the most trouble. [Fury] or ‘AJ’. The rematch with ‘AJ’, ‘AJ’ was level going into round 10.”
