Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn - Tony Bellew reveals what he would do if he was slapped with an egg
Tony Bellew has featured in his fair share of volatile press conferences, but even he was shocked when Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn went face to face earlier this week.
Eubank Jr and Benn will clash on April 26 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and their intense rivalry was increased when they met at another press conference to announce hype the fight.
After trading insults throughout the event, the feud escalated when Eubank Jr shockingly slapped an egg across Benn’s face .
This forced security to intervene as Benn, Nigel Benn, and Eddie Hearn all became involved with the situation meaning a later head-to-head was postponed.
With the pair now leaving these media showings until fight week, the hard work will now be done in their respective gyms before they eventually resume hostilities on fight week.
Bellew, who was in attendance at both press conferences can easily recall numerous bad-tempered collisions when coming up against the likes of Adonis Stevenson, David Haye, and Nathan Cleverly.
A master of pre-fight talk, Bellew was often comfortable going back and forth verbally with his rivals, but even he has admitted that he could not forget an egg being smashed in his face.
“Listen, things get said and done in the heat of the moment at press conferences and sometimes it gets out of hand,” said Bellew during an exclusive chat with DAZN News .
“Look back at my career. Go and look at me and David [Haye] when we went at it non-stop in the build-up to our first fight. That got nasty, but I think Eubank Jr went to another level with the egg.
“That was personal and it’s something Conor won’t ever forget. For me, it would be on with Eubank Jr every time I seen him and you heard that kind of stuff from people in Conor’s team after it all calmed down on Tuesday.”
