George Groves has been impressed with Daniel Dubois’ recent upturn in form, but he is still backing Oleksandr Usyk to get the job done when they meet this summer.
On July 19, live on DAZN, Usyk and Dubois will collide for a second time after the controversial meeting in 2023 was won by the brilliant Ukrainian.
Dubois believed he had dropped Usyk, but the shot was called low by the fight’s referee and that allowed the unified champion enough time to recover before going on to stop the British underdog.
His win over the latter took place at Wembley Stadium, and that is the venue Dubois will return to as he looks to become undisputed champion against the unbeaten star.
Usyk, like Dubois, is also a fighter who has enjoyed big successes in recent times after twice defeating Tyson Fury last year to cement himself as this era’s premier heavyweight.
Both fighters are heading into the eagerly anticipated showdown in a confident manner, but Groves can only see one winner.
“I have to say Oleksandr Usyk wins again, he’s the best heavyweight of this era and is phenomenal. He’s got the boxing ability nobody else can match. He gives away a lot of reach, height and size but it doesn’t bother him,” said Groves when speaking to Action Network.
“Daniel Dubois is a better fighter than the one who fought Usyk before, but I don’t think it’s enough. Ultimately, Daniel ran out of steam in the first fight because of the threatening pace Usyk can set.
“Even though he’s conquered the world and climbed Mount Everest and beat Fury twice, like Canelo, he’s old now and had some tough fights but not an awful amount of mileage on the clock, he is still performing. I saw him at the press conference with Dubois, and he is still up for it, and it is still business as usual.
“He’s ready to go, it’s at Wembley Stadium and is a rematch, all stuff he has dealt with before and coped with. I think he wins again.”
