Interim manager Michael Carrick takes charge of his first game for Manchester United against Manchester City at Old Trafford and says he does not feel under pressure from pundits.
Oliver Glasner has confirmed he will leave Crystal Palace in the summer, with captain Marc Guehi set to join Manchester City, and Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said the row between Declan Rice and his assistant coach was quickly resolved before his side’s game at Nottingham Forest.
New head coach Michael Carrick insists outspoken former Manchester United players like Roy Keane and Gary Neville do not add extra pressure to his job.
Carrick has been placed in charge for the remainder of the season and kicks off his reign with Saturday’s derby against Manchester City, when Neville and Keane are due to be working on Sky Sports’ coverage.
“They’re not putting more pressure on me,” the new head coach said of high-profile former United players in the media. “I don’t feel that. I think it’s just part of it.
“I understand there’s plenty of opinions around and some are positive, some not so much. But it’s totally irrelevant in terms of me and how I go to work and what I focus on.”
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season.
The highly-rated Austrian, who has been tipped to take over at Manchester United as the club’s next permanent boss, guided the Eagles to FA Cup success last season but had not agreed a contract extension at Selhurst Park.
Glasner, 51, arrived at Palace in 2024, having won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt.
“My decision has already been taken months ago,” Glasner told a press conference.
“I had a meeting (with Steve Parish) in the October international break, we had dinner and a very long talk and I told him I would not sign a new contract for Crystal Palace.”
Glasner also said Marc Guehi’s proposed January move to Manchester City is “in the final stages”, though City boss Pep Guardiola had “nothing to say” on the matter.
Mikel Arteta insisted the relationship between Declan Rice and one of his top coaches is “all good” following a heated exchange in the tunnel at Stamford Bridge.
Television footage emerged after Arsenal’s 3-2 Carabao Cup victory at Chelsea on Wednesday of Rice and assistant manager Albert Stuivenberg embroiled in a tense conversation.
Rice’s team-mate Gabriel intervened in the apparent disagreement which took place as the Arsenal players and coaching staff headed out for the second half of the semi-final.
Rice was substituted late in the second half and shared a long embrace with Stuivenberg before taking a seat in the Arsenal dugout.
Asked to clear up the situation between Rice and Stuivenberg, who has been at Arsenal since 2019, boss Arteta said: “All sorted, all good. The good thing is that by the time I found out, the problem was resolved so that’s very good.”
Danny Rohl targeted a league and cup double after Bojan Miovski’s hat-trick helped a much-changed Rangers side to a 5-0 Scottish Gas Scottish Cup win over Annan Athletic at Ibrox.
The North Macedonia striker fired the Gers into the lead in the 12th minute against the League Two outfit and grabbed a second before the break.
Midfielder Kieran Dowell added a third early in the second half and Miovski grabbed his own third in the 74th minute with a penalty before substitute Thelo Aasgaard scored a terrific free-kick.
The Gers boss said: “I think in general we can play for two titles at the moment, I think that’s what we want.
“In the cup you need less wins to be in the final, I think it’s a great opportunity, we want to push. I think we are hungry in the changing room at the moment.”
