WrestleMania 39: Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens win undisputed tag team title

WrestleMania 39 (WWE)

The Bloodline took a massive hit on Night One of WrestleMania 39 as The Usos lost their undisputed WWE tag team titles to Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.

In what was a brutal match at times, The Usos showed why they've held onto the belts for so long as they looked a cohesive unit against the ad hoc team of Owens and Zayn. The Usos worked well in isolating each of their opponents, delivering heavy attacks in the ring on one while the other was laid out on the outside.

Most of The Usos' ire was focused on Zayn, who was until recently part of the larger Bloodline faction that includes Solo Sikoa and Roman Reigns. The former "Honorary Uce" was targeted for numerous attacks but somehow was able to withstand everything the champions could throw at him long enough for Owens to recuperate and help Zayn ultimately gain the upper hand, after which he delivered several stiff shots on Jey Uso before earning the pinfall.

Prior to the main event, another belt changed hands as Rhea Ripley defeated Charlotte Flair to win the SmackDown Women's Championship. The match was a picture of physicality as the women employed similar styles, but Ripley was eventually able to overpower her experienced opponent to finally win the title she's strived for since joining the company.

The other belt on the line on Saturday was the United States Championship, which was contested by Austin Theory and challenger John Cena. Theory was seen as the underdog despite entering the match as the champion, due mostly to Cena's stature in the industry and his vast advantage in experience — especially at WrestleMania. Cena put on a vintage display against his younger opponent, cycling through many of the moves that he has made famous over the course of his decades-long career, and he even managed to get Theory to tap under the pressure of an STF submission hold, but an incapacitated referee meant the submission was not seen and Theory took advantage by delivering a low blow before hitting the A-Town Down and securing the title via pinfall.

Other results on Night One were: Seth "Freakin" Rollins defeating Logan Paul, Trish Stratus, Lita & Becky Lynch defeating Damage CTRL in a six-woman tag team match, and the Street Profits prevailing in a WrestleMania Showcase Match (Fatal Four-Way tag team match) over Braun Strowman & Ricochet, Alpha Academy and The Viking Raiders.
