WWE's road to WrestleMania could be in line for a massive shake-up after Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson announced he would appear on SmackDown this Friday night.

The wrestling legend turned Hollywood megastar hasn't been seen on WWE TV since the company's debut on Netflix at the start of the year, where he drew some criticisms over his segments after he looked to have put an end to certain storylines many fans believed would be continuing.

Since then, there have been major doubts about whether Rock would be appearing at this year's WrestleMania, and WWE had seemingly carried on with plans for the event that don't involve 'The Final Boss'.

However, in a press release ahead of Friday night's SmackDown show, WWE announced that The Rock will make an appearance on the show, which would suggest he could yet play a part in WWE's biggest show of the year.

Rock himself has further fuelled that excitement by taking to social media and stirring the pot ahead of the show by posting, "The Final Boss is coming to handle business, deliver a big beautiful gift to the city of New Orleans and f—k up a certain someone’s life with the Final Boss gospel."

The 52-year-old has long been earmarked to have a match with his cousin and current WWE Superstar Roman Reigns in what would be one of the biggest WrestleMania matches of all time.

The pair were tag team partners at last year's event when they successfully joined forces to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the main event of night one.

Since then, Reigns has become a fan favourite, and with the Tribal Chief still currently without a clear opponent for WrestleMania in April, the dream match with The Rock may yet still be on the cards.
