After seeing their hopes of a historic three-peat dashed by ZVVZ USK Praha in the semifinals, Fenerbahçe returned to the court with pride on the line. Anything short of a podium finish would have been unthinkable for the reigning champions, who had gone undefeated until their semifinal stumble.
It was a low-scoring, scrappy encounter, reflective of two battle-weary squads, but Fenerbahçe found a way to grind out the result, led by their MVP centerpiece.
Just 24 hours after being crowned EuroLeague Women MVP for a third consecutive season, Meesseman put up a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double, finishing with a performance efficiency rating of 24. Her impact was particularly felt in the fourth quarter, where Fenerbahçe's defense locked in and held Valencia scoreless for over five minutes, creating the gap needed to pull away.
Despite the loss, this remains Valencia Basket's best-ever finish in the competition, an achievement made more remarkable by their injury-depleted roster. Already missing key rotation players, they were without Leticia Romero in the third-place game and struggled to generate scoring depth, managing only seven bench points.
Leonie Fiebich led the scoring with 15 points, but the Spanish side simply lacked the firepower to match Fenerbahçe’s star-led push in the closing stages.
Still, the grit Valencia showed across the Final Six, including a semifinal appearance in their debut year, will be remembered fondly by their passionate fanbase, who made their presence felt throughout the week in Zaragoza.
For Fenerbahçe, third place is little consolation for a team built to win titles. But in a tournament where anything less than victory would always feel like failure, they still walk away with pride, anchored by the brilliance of Meesseman and the resilience of a team determined to finish with something in hand.
