ZVVZ USK Praha advanced to the semifinals for a fourth straight season with a determined 79-72 victory over Beretta Famila Schio. Their well-rounded performance proved just enough to withstand a gritty effort from the Italian side, who were forced to play without key guard Ivana Dojkić due to illness.
The game was evenly poised at 30-30 in the second quarter, but a momentum-shifting 17-5 scoring run helped Praha seize control. That burst, capped by a clutch three-pointer from Teja Oblak, gave them a double-digit edge heading into halftime.
Schio narrowed the margin to a one-possession game in the second half but couldn’t fully recover. Praha’s combination of composure and rebounding dominance proved decisive in closing out the win.
Brionna Jones led the way with 17 points and 5 rebounds in a controlled outing, while Valériane Ayayi added 19 points in a confident display on the wing. Ezi Magbegor, coming off the bench, grabbed 13 rebounds and added defensive steel inside.
Praha were clinical inside the arc, converting over 56 percent of their two-point attempts, and outmuscled Schio 41-28 on the boards. Despite some loose ball handling, their depth ultimately made the difference.
For Schio, early three-point shooting kept them in it, but foul trouble for Kitija Laksa and the lack of interior scoring proved costly. It was a brave effort from a shorthanded squad, but Praha had the extra gear when it mattered.
Next Up: Praha face Fenerbahce Opet in the semifinals on April 11.
CBK Mersin battled their way into the semifinals after a tense 66-59 win over Tango Bourges Basket. The Turkish club relied on their defensive resilience and late-game poise to get the job done in a game that went down to the wire.
With the game tied at 59 apiece in the closing minutes, Mersin locked down defensively, holding Bourges scoreless for the remainder of the contest. A crucial 7-0 run sealed the result and extended Mersin’s Final Four streak to three seasons.
Karlie Samuelson made a major impact off the bench, finishing with 11 points and 9 rebounds in a well-rounded performance. Though Natasha Howard wasn’t at her sharpest, she still recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds, offering valuable experience and presence in key moments.
The difference came from the bench, where Mersin held a 26-12 scoring edge. Their depth allowed them to rotate effectively and maintain intensity down the stretch, even when offensive rhythm was lacking.
Bourges showed plenty of heart and hustle. Pauline Astier orchestrated the offense well, and their physical approach created problems for Mersin early on. However, poor shooting in the clutch, especially from the perimeter (just 7-of-27 from three), proved to be their undoing.
