Andrew Moloney described himself as "the happiest man in the world" after dethroning Willibaldo García as IBF super-flyweight champion.
The Australian, a former rival of Junto Nakatani, took a majority decision at the Aichi Sky Expo to end a six-year journey to the summit.
Having previously reigned as WBA (Regular) champion briefly in 2020, the veteran star ensured the realisation of a career dream in Japan.
Speaking afterwards, the Melbourne-born fighter acknowledged the support of his family and friends after edging champion Garcia.
"I am the happiest man in the world," Moloney said after a career-best win. "That was one tough fight but the sacrifices were worth it.
"I have given everything in this sport for twenty years [and] there was no way I could leave this ring without winning this world title."
Moloney was previously offered a step-aside fee to allow Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez a clear shot at undisputed status, but declined the move.
It is a decision that has paid off for the star, who pledged to return to the Far East, adding: "I hope this is the first of many fights of mine in Japan."
Andrew Moloney headed out to Aichi as the underdog, having already irked several powerbrokers by staying the course for his shot.
It was a gamble - but one that has paid off for the star, who can now call himself a full world champion after edging Willibaldo García.
With a 29-4 (1) professional record, Moloney has not done matters the easy way, and his latest foe may swing back for another shot.
But with Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez tipped to switch divisions, he may yet be able to solidify a successful final act at super-flyweight here.
For now, he should take the chance to reap his rewards and celebrate the biggest night of his career. It is one for him to remember.
