The mere thought of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford getting into the ring together is enough to stir the blood of every boxing fan.
Mexican legend Alvarez will attempt to become a two-time undisputed super middleweight champion on Saturday night when he faces IBF champion William Scull in Riyadh live on DAZN PPV.
Already, though, talk centres on a September meeting with Crawford, pitting together two of the greatest fighters of their generation.
Certainly, it has all the makings of a classic with the potential to rival the best sporting drama in the world.
It would surely rank alongside any El Clasico derby between Barcelona and Real Madrid, FIFA World Cup or Champions League final.

Alvarez has been fighting professionally since he was 15 and in 66 fights to date has suffered only two losses.
Those came against the legendary Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2013 and Dmitry Bivol nine years later.
With a 20-year career now under his belt, Alvarez’s achievements in the ring are testament to his enduring class and punching power.

Alvarez has seen off stellar names such as Gennadiy Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev, Jermell Charlo, and recently Jaime Munguia.
He has won world titles in four weight classes and became the first undisputed super-middleweight champion of the four-belt era.
Although he has not achieved a knockout since 2021, Alvarez’s boxing intelligence and enduring class have kept him as the boxing’s most relevant fighter at 168lbs.
A showdown with Crawford would be one of the most talked-about fights for years.

The pair have long been touted for a potential match-up, as two of the pre-eminent pound-for-pound boxers in multiple weight classes over the past decade.
Unbeaten Crawford is tasked with jumping two weight classes to face Alvarez in their mooted showdown later this year.
The unbeaten American made his professional debut in 2008 and is universally regarded as one of the greatest fighters of the past decade.
The 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska has enjoyed an outstanding professional career to date, winning world titles in four weight classes as well as the undisputed world championship at super-lightweight and welterweight.
Crawford has defeated an abundance of highly ranked fighters during his tenure, including the likes of Israil Madrimov, Errol Spence Jr and Shawn Porter.
He remains unbeaten through 41 outings, as he looks to see out the duration of his career without a single defeat.
Another American fighter who had a peerless career of his own is Mayweather Jr, who defeated all 50 of the opponents he faced whilst winning world titles in four weight classes along the way.
Crawford is already a two-division undisputed titleholder and will attempt to cause a major shock by defeating Alvarez and becoming the first ever three-division champion.
Crawford made his 154-pound debut last August when he dethroned WBA light-middleweight champion Israil Madrimov in Los Angeles.
Crawford won his fourth world title at different weights after beating Madrimov by unanimous decision to extend his unbeaten record to 41 fights.
Defeat was the first of Madrimov’s career and the fight was Crawford’s last outing.
Crawford would move up another two weight classes for the clash with Alvarez which is already being talked about as one of the biggest fights in boxing history. And with good reason.
