After numerous encounters as amateurs, a date was set for the first professional meeting between Devin Haney, who was the WBC super lightweight champion, and Ryan Garcia.

The date would be April 20, 2024, with Brooklyn's Barclays Center the venue.

The fight week certainly kept everyone in boxing on their toes.

At the final press conference, Garcia agreed a bet with Haney where for every pound he was over the 140lb super lightweight limit, he would pay 'The Dream' $500,000.

While there were concerns about Garcia's antics, surely he would still make weight in order to challenge for Haney's WBC title.

However, Garcia weighed-in the day before the fight 143.2lbs meaning he was not eligible to challenge for the title and forfeit up to $600,000 of his purse. The fight still went ahead and Garcia was all over Haney, with his left hook troubling the former undisputed lightweight champion from the opening round.

Despite Garcia's punching threat, Haney was boxing the better fight, but in round seven, 'King Ry' flipped the script and knocked down Haney with a left-right combination.

Similar knockdowns followed in rounds 10 and 11 with Garcia's left hook proving to be Haney's kryptonite.

After 12 thrilling rounds, Garcia was declared the winner by majority decision with scores of 114-110 and 115-109, whilst the other judge scored the bout 112-112.

Will there be a Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia rematch?
