Edgar Berlanga throws money, underwear at Oscar De La Hoya in heated confrontation

Edgar Berlanga has been in a feisty mood all week leading into his DAZN PPV main event clash on Saturday against  Hamzah Sheeraz . While some of the venom has gone towards Sheeraz, the super middleweight contender spewed trash talk at the lead promoter of the Ring Magazine event.

At Wednesday's open media workout, Berlanga fired shots at Golden Boy Promotions head Oscar De La Hoya, saying he would "smack" the boxing legend if he saw "The Golden Boy" at Thursday's press conference.

Berlanga had his chance, and it nearly happened. 

Shakur Stevenson was talking to De La Hoya about making a bet for his fight with William Zepeda. After De La Hoya declined by telling the WBC lightweight champion “you don’t have enough money,” Stevenson proceeded to bring out a Mexican leather belt. Then Berlanga took out a leather bag and threw a wig, money, and pink women's underwear at De La Hoya.

This led to both De La Hoya and Berlanga to scream at one another. 

 

“You have no world titles," De La Hoya shouted. "This guy is not even Puerto Rican. Where’s your Puerto Rican passport?"

“You’re my stripper. "F— you. “F— you stripper. You couldn’t even afford me," Berlanga continuously shouted at De La Hoya. 

Things appeared to calm down as Berlanga had sat down, but De La Hoya challenged Berlanga off the comments he made towards the promoter the previous day.

“You said you’re gonna slap me?". De La Hoya said while egging Berlanga on. "C’mon."

Berlanga rose from his seat and made a beeline for De La Hoya. Security quickly intervened and both guys went to sit down, and the press conference continued.
