Jake Paul continues to make boxing inroads.
The YouTuber/boxer delivered a comfortable unanimous decision victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, and exclusively live on DAZN Pay-Per-View , on Saturday night and could possibly become a ranked cruiserweight as the outcome. Judges scored it 99-91, 97-93 and 98-92 all in favor of Paul who improved to 12-1 (7 KOs) and could be in position to challenge for a cruiserweight world title in the near future.
After defeating Mike Tyson in November, Paul defeated his most experienced opponent yet in Chavez Jr. behind a high volume of activity.
Paul utilized the jab well, working behind it and stab jabs to the body, to uncork hooks around the guard and rear uppercuts which landed sharply.
Although Chavez Jr. finally showed urgency, catching Paul with clean shots repeatedly to win the final two rounds, his late start and lack of explosion cost him dearly.
The final punch stats showed the story of the fight with Paul outlanding Chavez Jr. 140 punches to 61, though the latter was the more accurate puncher, connecting on 40 percent of his shots to Paul's 29 percent.
The aftermath of Paul's victory had him calling out everyone from unified cruiserweight world champion Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez, who was victorious in the co-main event, to WBC cruiserweight titleholder Badou Jack, Gervonta Davis, Anthony Joshua, and Tommy Fury.
Here is how the entire Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. pay-per-view main card went.
