Scottish boxing can receive a significant boost this weekend when Nathaniel Collins aims to take another step closer to a world title shot at featherweight.
Up for grabs on Saturday will be the European belt, but victory for Collins will surely give his world ranking a boost meaning a showdown with someone like Nick Ball or Stephen Fulton could become a realistic possibility in 2026.
So far in his professional career, Collins has not put a step wrong on his ascent to the business end of the sport, and another win over Cristobal Lorente in Glasgow can catapult his profile amongst local supporters.
Scottish boxing fans have been starved in recent years with Ricky Burns quietly exiting the sport and Josh Taylor's biggest moment taking place in America, but Collins now believes he can be the man to reignite the scene in his home country.
Headlining a show featuring a wealth of Scottish talent, Collins is aiming to put Scottish boxing on his back and deliver a period of prosperity for the famous fighting nation.
Lorente is bringing an unbeaten record to Glasgow, and the Spaniard has his admirers in the sport, but he could be walking into a cauldron on Saturday and Collins cannot wait much longer to hear the first bell go.
“This means everything to me and although this will be a hard fight Saturday night, these are the shows I want to be featuring all the time and I hope future ones have bigger titles on the line,” said Collins when speaking to DAZN.
“I can remember growing up and there were fighters like Scott Harrison and Alex Arthur. That’s where I want to be. Big fights in Scotland taking on all comers and going in with whoever has the world title belts I want.
“Carrying Scottish boxing would be a pressure for some fighters but I’m ready to step up and do it. I don’t see it as pressure. I see it as a privilege and I’m going to give it everything to get boxing massive up here and that starts Saturday.”
