For British lightweight Josh Padley the past week has been a whirlwind.
On Tuesday, the man from Armthorpe was busy going about his daily life as an electrician, and then he received the call which would change his life.
"Six o’clock that evening, that was the first contact we had with Matchroom regarding this dream come true," Padley exclusively told DAZN News.
"A world title shot, four days’ notice, you have to step up and step in."
That phone call from Matchroom was an offer to face WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson on Saturday night live on DAZN PPV.
Stevenson, who is considered to be one of boxing's next big stars, was on the bill for Riyadh Season's Last Crescendo, one of the greatest fight cards in the history of boxing.
With Floyd Schofield set to be in the opposite corner, everything was set for an exciting all-American clash. However, on Tuesday Schofield was admitted to hospital and after being consulted by a British Boxing Board of Control doctor, the 22-year-old was deemed not well enough to compete.
Now it's Padley who gets the nod to share the ring with Stevenson. While he was lined up for potential bouts with domestic foes Maxi Hughes or Dalton Smith, he is focused on realising his dream in the Saudi Arabian capital.
"Don’t get me wrong, they’re both quality operators, neither of them would have been an easy fight, but this is what everybody dreams about, a world title," Padley continued.
"I’m going into this fight to get that belt, what will come after this fight, if I do get this belt, it will be life changing for me."
Padley is no stranger to Riyadh Season bills after appearing on the undercard Daniel Dubois vs Anthony Joshua in September. That night he upset the odds by beating Mark Chamberlain by unanimous decision.
If he manages to beat Stevenson this weekend, it will no doubt be the upset of the century on the fight card of the century.
