Watch Harper vs Zimmermann live Friday on DAZN

Terri Harper ended 2024 by climbing back atop boxing’s elite mountain with a unanimous decision over Rhiannon Dixon to claim the WBO lightweight world championship.

Harper (15-2-2, 6 KOs) will now put her title on the line against German fighter Natalie Zimmermann (13-0, 3 KOs) at Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster, United Kingdom, and live on DAZN, this Friday.

The former's dominant win over Dixon came in September and Zimmermann’s points victory over Katerina Dvorakova was produced the same month.

With high stakes Friday night, DAZN News analyzes the keys to victory for both the champion and challenger entering this title bout.

Terri Harper’s keys to victory

Show ring generalship with spacing, assert right hand

Terri Harper does an excellent job at planting her lead foot in the canvas and establishing her ring real estate as if she has drawn a line in the sand.

With that savvy spacing comes the right hand.

Once that shot lands in succession cleanly, Harper is able to enter her zone.

String together combinations

Once Harper has asserted her right hand, expect the combinations to be pieced together shortly after.

That Zimmermann often lowers her guard to chest level could very well spell Harper feasting with combinations toward banked rounds and a successful title defense.

Time counterpunches

As aforementioned with the lapses in Zimmermann’s guard, a timed counterpunch from Harper could be used to frustrate the German fighter.

Those pointed counters can also lower Zimmermann's punching output and possibly end her quest of becoming champion.

Natalie Zimmermann's keys to victory

Change levels early to cut ring

Fight footage of Natalie Zimmermann shows the ability to change levels early which could be helpful in cutting the ring and making this title bout a fight contested in cramped quarters.

Achieving this will allow the challenger to swarm Harper with activity.

Drive up the punch count

Fighting as disciplined of a world champion as Harper, Zimmermann’s ability to change levels and drive up the punch count could be the only ways she gets the champ to budge off that front foot.

A high output will also make rounds tougher to call for judges who just might be swayed by the challenger’s activity.

Avoid lapses in the guard

Zimmermann cannot afford to lower her guard to chest level as she has done in the past.

Harper is too seasoned and will take advantage with pointed output, especially on the counterpunch end, when she spots this.

And if Zimmermann shows this lapse and does not adjust, it can very well be a long — or possibly short — night for the German fighter.
