Roy Jones Jr believes Canelo Alvarez can be victorious against Terence Crawford as long as he maintains the high standards he usually demonstrates on fight night.
Since defeating Errol Spence in the summer of 2023 , Crawford has stated that he is eager to test himself at super-middleweight after securing world titles in four weight classes.
The undisputed welterweight champion when making his intentions clear, Crawford was ready to jump three weight classes to face Canelo in what would have been a bold move.
Instead, the Nebraska man moved up one category to 154lbs when he defeated Israil Madrimov in 2024 to win the WBA crown .
Canelo spent last year enhancing his position as the world’s best super-middleweight with one-sided wins over Jaime Munguia and Edgar Berlanga.
Speculation is running through boxing as it stands that the clash between two pound-for-pound superstars is set for September 2025, and it is a contest that almost everyone has an opinion on.
Jones Jr, who knows what it takes to move through the weights, is the latest to have his say and he has delivered his verdict on the potential blockbuster.
“The weight won’t be the factor. The factor will be how Canelo chooses to make the fight,” said Jones Jr when speaking to The Ring .
“If Canelo comes out and does what Canelo should do, he wins the fight. If he comes out and does what he shouldn’t do, Crawford wins the fight.”
