Eddie Hearn reacts to huge Chris Eubank Jr egg slap fine
Eddie Hearn believes the £100,000 fine given to Chris Eubank Jr for slapping Conor Benn was an appropriate punishment for an action which he claimed 'crossed the line'.
Last month, the build-up officially got underway for Eubank Jr vs Benn which takes place on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium live on DAZN PPV.
As expected, there was plenty of bad blood between Eubank Jr and Benn, but it was the former who stole headlines, slapping Benn with an egg at the end of a press conference in Manchester.
This action sparked plenty of debate whilst also peaking interest in the fight, and as a result, the British Boxing Board of Control fined Eubank Jr £100,000 for the slap.
Hearn, who promotes Benn, gave his reaction to the fine in an interview with Matchroom Boxing.
"I thought it was 'eggspensive' to be honest with you," Hearn said jokingly.
"It does sound expensive. I think the world’s gone a little bit mad, I get it, viral clips work, they do numbers, they create hype, they drive interest, they sell PPVs, they sell tickets.
"Listen, I’m the worst of all of them, all of those things, that’s my bread and butter, but maybe I’m just a little bit older where I don’t want people to think that’s okay.
"What we’re trying to teach in the community, and through grassroots boxing are the things that boxing can instil in you, which is discipline, respect, manners, understanding the rules, and he broke the rules, he crossed the line."
