Eddie Hearn has named June 21 as the date for the IBF super lightweight title fight between Richardson Hitchins and George Kambosos Jr.

Kambosos made a successful debut at 140lbs on Saturday with a unanimous decision win over a tough Jake Wyllie, but there is concern over a cut to Kambosos.

An accidental clash of heads in round nine opened the cut and it will be a race against time to prepare for Hitchins when the cut is fully healed.

Hearn, who promotes Kambosos, is confident that the former unified lightweight champion can make the date and secure his chance to become a two-weight world champion.

"The date is going to be June 21, that’s what we’re targeting, there’s no movement on that date," Hearn told Ring Magazine

"Richardson Hitchins is fighting on that date, George Kambosos or someone else.

"I don’t think the cut is that bad, it’s 13 weeks tonight, so it’s going to take four or five weeks for the cut to heal. He’ll be fit and then he can start sparring again.

"He needs to make that date, I believe he can."

A fight between Hitchins and Kambosos would be the former's first IBF title defence after beating Liam Paro in Puerto Rico last December.
