Chris Eubank Jr reacts to huge BBBofC fine for Conor Benn egg slap
Chris Eubank Jr was confused by the £100,000 fine he received from the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) for his now iconic Conor Benn egg slap.
The incident took place in February at a press conference in Manchester finally announcing the long-awaited grudge match between Eubank Jr and Benn on April 26 live on DAZN PPV.
During the face off, Eubank Jr decided to slap Benn with an egg in reference to an adverse finding in a drugs test which called off the original bout in October 2022.
In an interview with The Ring, Eubank Jr gave his thoughts on the fine.
"It's definitely an unusually high number," he said.
"There have been guys who have done way worse than what I did and been fined a lot less. So confusion was what I felt when I saw that number."
Eubank Jr then explained why he did not regret his actions in front of the world's media.
"What I did wasn't just a slap with an egg, it was a statement, a symbol, it was letting the entire community and world know that if you cheat, you're going to get exposed," he continued.
"That type of message that was sent out to the kids, and that message was priceless."
Eubank Jr has since received a warning from the BBBofC after he made a £1 million bet with Eddie Hearn about the result of his clash with Benn which goes against the board's rules and regulations.
