Eddie Hearn names the American fighter he believes is like Floyd Mayweather and Sugar Ray Leonard

DAZN
Paul vs Chavez Jr - June 28 - live on DAZN PPV

Eddie Hearn has heaped praise on Shakur Stevenson as the American star gets ready to face William Zepeda on July 12

In one of the biggest events of the year, Stevenson and Zepeda, live on DAZN , will finally collide in New York as the Louis Armstrong Stadium plays host to a big night of boxing

Linked to a fight for well over a year now, Stevenson and Zepeda are both fully aware this day has been coming, and they came face to face at a press conference to hype the event.

Newark’s Stevenson, a three-weight world champion and one of the best fighters in the sport, has had things his own way throughout his career, but his safety-first approach means he has not received the fanfare his talent deserves.

In Zepeda, Stevenson will be facing a marauding fighter who will come forward at every opportunity, and he is expected to give Stevenson his toughest fight to date.

Hearn, who is still serving as Stevenson’s promoter, has long been an admirer of his man’s talents and he could not help but highlight those talents when speaking to the world’s media.

“People always ask me the difference in the U.S. coming over from the UK. Stevenson is a superstar, not just a superstar in boxing, but in American sport,” said Hearn regarding Stevenson.

“He’s 27 years old. He’s a three-division world champion, and he’s never broken a sweat. Eric Gomez said it right, comparing him to Floyd Mayweather, but I’d also put him with the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, all of the greats.

"For greatness, you need a great opponent, and that’s William Zepeda.”
