Rolando 'Rolly' Romero, a former opponent for Gervonta Davis, is backing 'Tank' to have his hand raised if he does end up facing Lamont Roach in a rematch of their WBA lightweight title fight.
Davis was defending his title at Brooklyn's Barclays Center and after going the full 12-round distance, the contest was declared a majority draw and it was one overshadowed by controversy.
In round nine, Davis decided to take a knee following a Roach jab, and then went to his corner where his face was wiped by a member of his team. Referee Steve Willis however decided to not rule this a knockdown or take a point off Davis for his actions.
This led to uproar when the contest was scored a draw with some believing that if Davis had a point taken off for his actions in the ninth, Roach could have been crowned the WBA's new lightweight champion.
While the decision has not been overturned by the New York State Athletic Commission, it is expected that Davis and Roach will meet in a rematch.
Romero, who was knocked out by Davis when they went head-to-head three years ago, believes that it will be a different story second time round with 'Tank' making the necessary adjustments in order to make a rematch with Roach an easier contest to navigate.
"I’d take Tank,” Romero told The Ring, “because I think Tank will make the necessary adjustments.”
Romero is involved in a marquee fight of his own on May 2 when he faces Ryan Garcia in a historic event which will take place in the middle of New York's iconic Times Square.
Garcia vs Romero will headline a three-fight card which will also have appearances from former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney and WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez.
