Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn's upcoming bout is what British boxing needs right now, believes Sunny Edwards, as the pair prepare to square off this April .

The two men will look to settle their long-simmering rivalry at The Ring's Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 26, live on DAZN .

The bout will see the pair follow in the footsteps of their fathers Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, who fought two legendary battles in their prime over three decades ago.

Now Edwards, who himself hails from a boxing family, suggests that while that generational link cannot be escaped, it remains a potent story to help build domestic success.

"When you known as a name before you've even fought, you spend your whole life getting partnered together," the ex-IBF flyweight champion exclusively told DAZN News .

"Especially with the iconic boxing moments that their dads gave us. Fast-forward all these years, and we're championing the same names again. It's what domestic boxing needs.

"With the biggest names in the biggest fights in the biggest arenas. I was genuinely entertained throughout [Tuesday's press conference]. We know the fight is happening.

"We're all here. There's a lot of bad blood and genuine animosity. You can tell they're not doing it just because the cameras are here. You can tell they don't like each other."

Tensions boiled over at the end of Tuesday's press conference between Eubank Jr. and Benn, after the former struck the latter across the cheek with an egg during a face-off .

Edwards meanwhile announced his retirement following a sixth-round stoppage loss to Galal Yafai last November, and admits he is enjoying his newfound freedom.

"I've never had so much up time in my life!" he added. "Now it's just grafting. I'm managing fighters, and I'm doing commentary. It's just getting involved as much as I still can."
