The 31-year-old travels stateside to face IBF super lightweight champion Richardson Hitchins on Saturday, June 14, with the card shown live on DAZN.
Kambosos Jr established his name in the UK and USA with successive wins over Lee Selby and Teofimo Lopez, defeating the latter to become world champion at lightweight.
A unification attempt against Devin Haney did not pay off, with Kambosos putting the IBF and WBO titles on the line to take the American’s WBC crown.
The Australian lost the initial contest and the rematch via unanimous decisions, and his most recent world title shot in 2023 ended in a technical knockout loss to Vasyl Lomachenko.
With glory at the world level still fresh in the memory, Kambosos Jr is still chasing a return to the elite of the sport.
In a YouTube sitdown with his upcoming opponent on the Matchroom channel, Kambosos Jr stated: “For me, this is not about money. Don’t get it twisted, I’ve made a sh*tload of money. This is for me catching that feeling again and I’m coming back to the same place that I caught that feeling before. This is about proving to the world who I am, the champion that I am, the champion that I have been. I’ve been to this place, I’ve proved as an underdog. I’m coming to do it again.”
His opponent is unbeaten in 19 encounters, winning seven via knockout. Hitchins became world champion last time out, with a split decision win over Liam Paro in December 2024.
The American believes a successful first defence against Kambosos Jr will improve his CV.
“He’s a big name,” he started. “I respect George Kambosos as a man and him going into the sport and doing what he done. But at the end of the day this is my time to shine and I need a name like Kambosos on my resume to show the world that I belong on top of the sport of boxing.”
