We may still be getting over the Christmas festivities, but there was a full programme of Serie A action this weekend, where once again the top three flexed their muscles at the top of the table, thanks to three of the league’s biggest matchwinners.

Here's a round-up of the big talking points from Serie A's  matchday 17.

Big names turn up for big guns

The top three were back in league action and continued to set the pace at the top of Serie A, with a big assist from their big game players.

Three wins all settled by strikers, to cement Inter’s lead at the top and Milan and Napoli as their closest challengers.

The leaders had captain Lautaro Martinez to thank, who settled the close encounter with Atalanta with the only goal of the game, to stay a point clear of rivals Milan.

The Rossoneri were 3-0 winners at home to Hellas Verona, and saw both Christian Pulisic on the scoresheet once again as well as a brace from Christopher Nkunku.

The champions stayed in the hunt thanks to two goals from Rasmus Hojlund in the win over Cremonese.

Fiorentina fall again

Bottom at Christmas but with hope after a first win of the season, Fiorentina came crashing back down to earth with a disappointing defeat to Parma.

Having given themselves a chance in their fight from the drop last week, they failed to repeat the trick and allowed Parma to move further away from them at the bottom end of the table.

Paolo Vanoli’s side only had themselves to blame, too, as they wasted a series of opportunities throughout the game. Most notably, Moise Kean, who failed to convert any of his seven chances.

Paz magic

Nico Paz continues to be Serie A’s most productive player and was at the hub of everything for Como in their win over Lecce.

Another goal and assist for the young Argentinian only adds to his numbers, with him leading the way with the most goal involvements in the league.

His performances won’t have gone unnoticed, and it will only add to the speculation over his future and whether Cesc Fabregas can hang on to his star man.

Like father, like son

Christmas is a time for family and there was a sweet moment over the weekend as the next generation of Buffon made only his second top flight appearance of his career.

17-year-old Louis Buffon made a late cameo for Pisa, against of all teams Juventus, the club where his father achieved legendary status.

Unlike his old man, however, Buffon junior wasn’t between the sticks because he’s shied away from following Dad and in fact, plays way further down the pitch as a winger.
