Chris Eubank Jr.'s future is unwritten after the Briton defeated compatriot Conor Benn in an all-time classic at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month, but Amir Khan has suggested that Eubank aim for the very top of the boxing world for his next fight.
Khan, a former unified super lightweight champion, urged Eubank to pursue a bout against current two-time undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez.
Canelo will be busy through September preparing for a recently announced super-fight against undefeated four-weight champion Terence Crawford, but Khan hopes that Eubank can be one of the Mexican's next opponents as it would be good for his compatriot's profile and bank account.
“Eubank hasn’t had many wars in his career, so I think he’d always be ready for a big fight like that," Khan told FastSlots. "I hope it happens, honestly—it’d be a great payday for him."
Khan's matchmaking comes with a warning, however. The now-retired 2004 Team GB Olympic silver medallist shared a ring with Canelo in 2016, when the Mexican earned a sixth-round knockout victory.
So while he believes Eubank deserves the monetary boost that comes with a Canelo fight, Khan only sees the fight going one way should it come to fruition.
“We want fighters to get big paydays. And I think he could make that happen, but Canelo’s an animal, man," Khan said. That’s one guy you don’t want to f—k with.
“I’ve been in the ring with him—I know how good he is. He’s a beast. I don’t think Eubank wins that fight, not even close.“He’s strong as f—k Just a solid geezer. You don’t want to get hit by him, because he hits so f—king hard.
“The power Canelo has was something else, he literally knocked me out. I didn’t feel it. I only saw it later on TV—it was a clean KO, put me to sleep. That was it. End of story.”
