Filip Hrgovic eyes 'revenge' rematch with Daniel Dubois after Joe Joyce victory
Filip Hrgovic has taken aim at a "revenge" rematch with Daniel Dubois after he defeated Joe Joyce by unanimous decision to return to winning ways in Manchester on Saturday.
The heavyweight followed up a first career loss last year with a short-notice victory against his fellow Rio 2016 Olympian at Heavy Impact, held at the city's Co-op Live.
Hrgovic looked the sharper of the two as they traded blows throughout a slug-fest of a contest, with the Croatian extending his pro record to 18-1 with his triumph.
Dubois was at ringside on the night, and speaking afterwards, the 32-year-old suggested he would be keen to pursue a second dance after defeating Joyce.
"This guy beat Dubois, and I beat him, so I want revenge with Daniel Dubois," he said. "I did really bad in my last fight and congratulations to him, he did amazing last year.
"Of course I would like to have a rematch one day. I came into this fight at short notice, a few weeks away. I wasn't quite ready. Thanks to Joe for this opportunity.
"Thanks to him, thanks to my team. I'm really happy to be back and looking forward to some big fights in the future. This guy is like steel.
"I couldn't believe he took all these shots. He's a really tough guy, a beast. He's very strong. One more time, thanks to him and his team for this opportunity."
Victory for Hrgovic, who replaced the injured Dillian Whyte will put him back into contention among the upper ranks of a crowded division as he seeks another shot at a major belt.
For Joyce however, fast approaching 40, there will be serious questions over his longevity in the ring after a fourth loss in his last five bouts.
