Frank Warren has revealed there were other contenders to face Derek Chisora alongside Otto Wallin, but that the latter has a point to prove in a must-win for his career.
The two meet at The Last Dance at Manchester's Co-op Live this Saturday, live on DAZN (excludig UK and Ireland), with the Briton due to bid farewell to his home country before one last bout abroad.
Wallin, who holds a 27-2 (1) record, offers a strong opponent after Jarrell Miller fell through as first choice, with the Swede having only lost to Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
For Warren, that speaks to the challenge Chisora faces, but the Queensberry Promotions boss also believes Wallin must win so as to ensure he stays at the top table.
"There were quite a few different people whose names were mentioned," he told DAZN's The Ariel x Ade Show. "But we settled on this one.
"He's only lost two fights, and both of those were to world champions in Fury and AJ. He's fought at the highest level. On his day, he can be a bit of a problem for anybody.
"He's a southpaw, and he's awkward. He's up for this. For Derek, this is his last fight in the UK and he'll want to go out on a high.
"But for Wallin, he can't afford to lose if he wants to get another big fight. If he loses this one, he becomes a stepping stone for up-and-coming young fighters."
