Johnny Nelson says who he thinks Oleksandr Usyk should fight next and it is not Anthony Joshua or Daniel Dubois

Johnny Nelson believes that Joseph Parker should be the next man to step into the ring with Oleksandr Usyk for a shot at heavyweight glory.

Last month, Parker looked set to receive a world title shot when he was scheduled to face Daniel Dubois, but that bout was called off at the last minute when Dubois withdrew with illness

With doubts existing that it could be rearranged, both fighters are looking at their next move and Usyk is a likely target for both men as he holds three heavyweight titles.

Dubois, who was beaten by Usyk in 2023, appears much improved since then and has captured the IBF strap before defending it against Anthony Joshua via a fifth-round stoppage

Parker is also on a superb run and in the last 18 months he has registered impressive victories over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang.

Every heavyweight is seemingly knocking at Usyk’s door, but Nelson, a former cruiserweight world champion, would like to see Parker get the nod.

“If I was their team, I'd look at Daniel Dubois and think we've proved that now. He's beat him. Dubois is down as the IBF champion, but we've crossed that bridge, we've dealt with it,” said Nelson in a column for Sky Sports

“And they know Daniel's dangerous. He's riding a high, he's got more confidence now. Daniel hurt Usyk in their fight.

“Then Joseph Parker comes along. He's a scalp that Usyk's not had. I think that's the option they'll take. Because as long as Daniel keeps winning, why could it not happen after that?

“So even though we may have our wishlist and say let's see Daniel get in with him again, I believe that business-wise if I was Usyk, that's the path that I'd go. I'd go Parker, I'd go Dubois. That's how I'd look at it.”
