Billy Nelson is fully focused on a world title bid for Lewis Crocker with the Belfast man now a mandatory challenger for a shot at the IBF welterweight belt.
This past weekend, Crocker and Paddy Donovan were part of a hugely controversial finish when the former took the win despite being second-best from the opening bell.
Despite conceding dominance to Donovan, Crocker was fouled several times with the Limerick fighter receiving several warnings and also having points deducted.
In the eighth round, Donovan appeared to be coasting towards a stoppage victory after dropping Crocker and he was intent on forcing an early finish.
As the bell sounded to end the round, Donovan continued to attack, and one shot was enough to put Crocker on the floor.
Marcus McDonnell approached a celebrating Donovan and advised him he was disqualified meaning that Crocker was the winner despite looking anything but that.
Despite many calls for an immediate rematch, Crocker is now in position to land a huge fight, possibly against Jaron Ennis, and that is the focus for Nelson, Crocker’s trainer.
“Crocker categorically will be fighting for the world title next,” said Nelson when speaking to The Ring .
“The appeal, I don't think in any way shape or form will get overturned and then Lewis will fight whoever he's got to fight for the world title, later in the year.”
“Do you think we're gonna box a rematch when you've earned and are in a position to fight for the world title? Nobody will do that. You tell me who’ll do that, and I'll call them a liar.”
