Manny Pacquiao's comeback has taken another step towards becoming official with the WBC now including the eight-weight world champion in their welterweight rankings.
Last week, rumours gathered pace that Pacquiao was planning to end his near four year retirement to challenge WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios.
Now Pacquiao has been ranked number five in the WBC's welterweight rankings following an update on Tuesday meaning that he is eligible to challenge for the sanctioning body's welterweight title.
The Filipino has not stepped into the ring since August 2021 when he was comprehensively beaten by WBA welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas.
Despite participating in exhibition bouts in recent years, going into a world title fight with Barrios will be a tough task with the latter 17 years younger than the boxing great.
Barrios currently boasts a 29-2-1 record with 18 of those wins coming by way of knockout, but his first world title defence against Abel Ramos last November ended in a draw.
