Stephen Smith reveals the reason why he is so confident as Callum Smith vs Joshua Buatsi battle approaches

Callum Smith is hoping to demonstrate his world level credentials at light-heavyweight this weekend when he goes in with Joshua Buatsi this weekend

The fascinating domestic encounter is part of a huge night of boxing that can be seen live on DAZN on February 22 with numerous quality contests.

Smith’s bout with Buatsi sees two fighters eager to be the best in their division, but only the victor will be in a strong position to push on and challenge for the belts that are held by Artur Beterbiev, who faces Dmitry Bivol in Saturday's headline act.

Last year, Smith travelled to Canada to challenge Beterbiev, but his challenge was short-lived as he was stopped in seven rounds by the unbeaten star.

Despite that setback, Smith is still confident that he can perform at an elite level, and he will be hoping he can prove that when the first bell goes against Buatsi.

The Liverpool man is no stranger to these types of bouts after coming out on the positive side in battles against Rocky Fielding and John Ryder.

Part of the famous Smith fighting family that saw all four brothers win British titles and challenge for world honours, Smith will always have the backing of his siblings.

Beterbiev v Bivol competition

Older brother Stephen, now a thriving trainer, helped out with Callum’s preparations for his last fight in November, and he is very confident about seeing a very impressive performance when the Buatsi fight gets underway.

“Having that fight in November will help a lot I think,” said Smith when speaking exclusively to DAZN News

“Before Beterbiev, he’d gone well over a year without a fight and that’s not ideal when you’re going in with one of the most dangerous fighters about.

“That run out in Birmingham just got him out there and he was able to shake off some rust before going into another big fight.

“If Callum is at his best then I don’t see a way Buatsi can win. I watched his fight with Willy Hutchinson and that gave me confidence because if Willy is getting through the way he did then Callum will definitely get opportunities.”
