Tony Bellew believes the upcoming clash between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn is the biggest fight to be staged in the U.K.
On April 26, live on DAZN , Eubank Jr and Benn will renew a rivalry that has long been personal between themselves and includes their fathers.
In the thriving 1990s, Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn put British boxing on the map when they participated in two memorable encounters.
Over 30 years on, their sons are about to do the same and the build-up to the bout has been nothing short of dramatic and exciting.
Originally set to collide in 2022, the contest was pulled at the last minute when it emerged Benn had an adverse finding in his drug test.
When the pair came together last month to hype their fight, things quickly turned nasty as Eubank Jr hit Benn with an egg following explanations that it was eggs that could have impacted Benn’s drug test.
The incident has made the fight even more appealing, and Bellew, who cannot wait for the pair to go at it, has delivered his verdict.
“This is, quite simply, the biggest fight this country's ever seen. It's going to be huge. I think the hatred goes one way,” said Bellew when speaking to CasinoBeats.com .
“And I understand why Conor would hate Chris because of all the things that were done in the background to Conor. But I think with Chris, this is purely business.
“I've been there with this kind of animosity, and I've been there with this kind of domestic rivalry. It's not nice. It literally eats away at you. It's on your mind daily.”
