Carl Froch casts doubt on major rematch

Carl Froch is uncertain whether a lucrative rematch between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn will go ahead

Last month, the bitter rivals delivered an epic contest that far exceeded the pre-fight hype as both men left everything in the ring before a sold-out crowd at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

The fight had plenty of memorable moments as each fighter enjoyed plenty of success, but after 12 pulsating rounds where you struggled to catch your breath, it was Eubank Jr who was victorious at the end.

Due to the entertainment provided by both men, before the fight, and during it, the anticipation for a rematch is high and it appears to be the natural step for both men.

Other options do exist for both fighters with Eubank Jr eager to test himself against Canelo Alvarez after the Mexican icon had been linked to a huge fight in Britain.

For Benn, his profile soared in defeat and if he is able to successfully return to the welterweight division he previously occupied, a world title shot could be arranged for the Essex man.

Froch, who enjoyed numerous high-profile feuds during his illustrious career, does not think a second meeting will happen.

“I’d be surprised if Conor Benn wants that fight. His trainer, Tony Sims, knows better than to put him back in there with him,” said Froch when speaking to Sporting Talk

“I don’t think it’d be at 160 with a 10lbs rehydration clause. It might be at 160, but there won’t be a 10lbs rehydration clause in the rematch.

“Eubank holds all the cards now. Conor Benn is not a super middleweight, so if you’re looking after Conor Benn and not the bank account of somebody else, then you’re not taking that fight.”
