Chris Eubank Jr could face punishment from the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) for his actions during a press conference on Tuesday.
Eubank and Conor Benn attended a press event in Manchester to kick off the build-up to their anticipated April 26 fight, which comes after years of bad blood between the British fighters.
During the face off to end the event, Eubank slapped an egg against Benn's face, sparking a melee involving both fighter's teams. The incident drew worldwide attention, which included the BBBofC.
According to a report from The Ring Magazine, the BBBoC could call for a hearing in regards to Eubank's actions, and punishment could follow.
"We're obviously disappointed he did such a silly thing," BBBoC general secretary Robert W. Smith said. "He struck Conor which was inappropriate."
Smith added: "We'll get a hearing in as soon as we can possibly get it on.
"I can't speculate [on punishment]. There's lots of things they can do, they can withdraw licenses, they can fine, they can suspend, they can put conditions on licences."
Eubank and Benn are set to attend the second of this week's planned press conferences on Thursday, with the fighters likely to be kept apart.
