Floyd Mayweather names his pound-for-pound number one and it is not Oleksandr Usyk
Terence Crawford can prove without doubt he is the best fighter on the planet later this year, but Floyd Mayweather already believes he is.
Crawford looks set to face Canelo Alvarez in September and victory over the Mexican icon will see him undoubtedly recognised as the pound-for-pound number one.
As it stands, Crawford is currently vying for that position with the likes of Naoya Inoue and Oleksandr Usyk, but a win over Canelo can change that.
With Canelo set to face William Scull on May 3 , live on DAZN , Canelo will be watching closely knowing that he will likely be facing the winner in the second half of 2025.
Mayweather defeated Canelo in 2013 so knows what awaits Crawford, and although he has stated he rates Canelo highly, it is Crawford who he thinks is the sport’s best fighter
“I think Terence Crawford, right now in the sport of boxing, is the pound-for-pound best fighter,” said Mayweather when speaking to Brian Mazique.
“It’s good to see him in the position that he’s in. Terence Crawford, continue to be great.”
