Justis Huni believes Fabio Wardley is the more powerful fighter but claims he is superior in every other department ahead of their clash at Portman Road on June 7, live on DAZN.

The heavyweight showdown at the home of Wardley’s beloved Ipswich Town is an intriguing fight between two unbeaten fighters.

Australian Huni, 26, has 12 wins from 12 so far in his career while local boy Wardley has 18 victories and a draw from his 19 professional bouts.

Huni said at Wednesday’s pre-fight press conference on DAZN: “I believe the only thing that he has over me is the power.

“But I believe every other box I tick – footwork, speed, putting my punches together in bunches – so I can’t wait to get it on.

“I’m not going to stand there to be hit. I believe most, and nearly all, of his opponents have made it a 50-50 fight by just standing there and seeing who lands the big shot first.

“I’m not going to be that guy who’s standing there to be hit and waiting to give him that opportunity.

“I’m going to make my own opportunities and I think he’s going to find out on June 7.”

That drew a pithy response from Wardley towards Huni, who accepted the fight after the Ipswich man’s initial opponent Jarrell Miller pulled out with a shoulder injury.

Wardley said: “I understand he’s taken on this fight at short notice, but I would probably urge him to do a bit more homework because if you think that all I’ve got is power then it’s going to be a rough night for you on June 7.

“But everyone knows there’s more in my bag than just power – I’ve proved that.

“It only takes you two or three times to look through my fights and my record to see that.

“Don’t get me wrong, those fights have always ended in me dropping my opponent or getting them out of there which is the power being proven.

“But also to set them up, put the punches in place and put the whole of it together comes from boxing ability, boxing IQ and studying my opponent. That’s something that I do very well.”

Wardley said his dedication to boxing was a key part of his success to date and deserved to be recognised.

“Yes, the power is the glitz and glamour and the highlight reel that you see,” he continued.

“But no-one else sees all the hard work, dedication and hours of sitting through footage in assessing the details of fighters and making those come out on the night.

“It’s something I’ve really doubled down on and don’t get me wrong, he’s a great fighter with a lot of ability so there are going to be some areas I’m going to have to really pick out and focus on.

“But ultimately, the outcome on June 7 will be the same with Fabio Wardley’s hand raised.”
