Tim Tszyu delivered a triumphant return to his native Australia on Sunday as the former WBO light-middleweight champion resurrected his career with victory over Joey Spencer.

The Sydney-born fighter, returning to home soil after back-to-back losses agaist Sebastian Fundora and Bakhram Murtazaliev, faced questions over his future before this bout.

But in a ruthless display, the 30-year-old - part of the Tszyu boxing dynasty - delivered a showstopping performance to halt American Spencer with a fourth-round stoppage win.

The latter, who held just one loss on his record heading into the contest at Newcastle Entertainment Centre in New South Wales, was expected to offer another punishing test.

Tszyu's victory instead vaults him back into the light middleweight upper ranks, with the star subsequently calling out former unified welterweight champion  Keith Thurman.

"I'm back, baby," he said in his post-bout comments. "I couldn’t do a third consecutive loss.“But I hope I teach people if they drop [...] you can always get back up.

"The critics, they’re always going to be there, but for me, I’ve proven to myself and I proved it to everyone in the world that I’m back."

Tszyu started slow in Newcaastle during the first round, having made the mistake of falling into traps laid by last opponent Murtazaliev when he fought in October 2024.

But he exploded into action in the second round, landing a left before following it up in the third with a combination of punches to put Spencer on the back foot.

A fourth-round onslought left the American staggering, and the contest was waved off in the final minute, to complete a remarkable return to form for the home favourite.
