Canelo Alvarez is the latest high profile fight figure to come out and declare his verdict on Gervonta Davis’ most recent performance

Last weekend, Davis was held to a surprising draw by Lamont Roach, but the result could have been a lot worse if the referee would have given Davis a count.

In the fight's ninth round, Davis took a knee that prompted Steve Willis to begin counting before he stopped and allowed David to receive treatment from his corner.

At the end of the fight, Davis blamed grease going into his hair for the break in the action, but he can consider himself fortunate that he was not given a count.

With the fight being scored a draw, the 10-8 round that Roach should have received instead went to ‘Tank’ and that prevented a huge upset from taking place.

Willis has faced widespread criticism since the call, and it is highly likely that the WBA will order an immediate rematch between the pair.

“In my opinion it was a draw. He [took] a knee,” said Canelo when speaking to Hot 97

“Plus the corner go up and put a towel in his face. That’s a disqualification. For sure. I’m talking about the rules, but it’s not my business.”
