Fighter nicknamed 'Manchester Golovkin' forced to go the distance in superb battle
William Crolla maintained his perfect record as he registered another win with a narrow points victory over Emmanuel Zion in Manchester.
Aiming to replicate the form that took his brother, and trainer, Anthony, to world title glory in a previous era, Crolla is going about it the right way and he is winning many admirers on his journey.
Demonstrating superb power in his short career so far, Crolla’s knockout power is winning him new fans as he continues to deliver emphatically as well as climbing the super-welterweight rankings.
Crolla had been expected to receive a stern test from the well-respected Zion, and that is how the fight materialised as the unbeaten star had to answer questions in the early going.
When it became clear that Zion would not be budged easily, Crolla made the necessary adjustments after being unaccustomed with his fights going past the third round.
Despite being pushed hard by Zion throughout, Crolla will be grateful for the tough rounds as he was eventually declared the winner on the referee’s scorecard 58-57.
At his peak, Anthony Crolla was one of Britian's most loved fighters after overcoming many setbacks to finally become world champion in 2015.
He would later share the ring with marquee names such as Vasiliy Lomachenko and Jorge Linares before retiring from the sport in 2019.
Now guiding the career of his brother, it would not be surprising to see more honours heading his way, this time as William’s trainer, a fighter Eddie Hearn has labelled ‘The Manchester Golovkin.’
